Apple says iPod sales slow, but profit jumps - Mp4 Converter

Updated July 21,2006

Apple Computer on Wednesday reported a 47.5 percent jump in profit for the quarter, in spite of a dip in the sales of its iconic iPod music players.

While iPod music players sales slowed quarter to quarter, the Cupertino company's traditional business -- Macintosh computers, just refitted with powerful Intel chips -- increased nearly 20 percent over the previous quarter, and 12 percent over the same period a year ago.

Overall revenue for the quarter that ended July 1 increased 24 percent to $4.37 billion. Profit was $472 million, or .54 cents a share.

The company's third quarter is traditionally a slow one, coming before the summer back-to-school rush and after the January quarter, which often gets a carry-over boost from the holiday season.

Analysts have been predicting a slowdown in iPod music player sales. The Cupertino company, which has introduced two new iPod designs every year, hasn't created a new one since October, when it unveiled the video iPod.
