Compare HD DVD and Blu-ray directly by identical source material - Mp4 Converter

Updated August 10,2006

Warner Home Video just released 'Training Day' 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' and 'Rumor Has It' on Blu-ray following their debut on HD DVD last month. This makes the Warner Home Video become the first studio to release the same movie titles on both HD DVD and Blu-ray formats and also make the direct comparison between Blu-ray disc and HD DVD possible. With the identical source material, these two formats can be compared directly. The comparison is made in those areas: video and audio quality, depth of supplemental content, and overall ease of use and menu navigation.

From High Def Digest reviewer Peter M. Bracke's review we can see that the reviewer gave his favor to the HD DVD. Bracke used the Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-ray disc player and a Toshiba HD-XA1 HD DVD player for the comparison. In the first disc 'Training Day' the Blu-ray version was less bright and was cropped on the sides. In the dual-layer 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' disc, it was harder to tell the difference between the two formats. Towards the third disc 'Rumor Has It', the reviewer still gave a nod to HD DVD quality.

Therefore just from Bracke's review HD DVD wins upper hand.
